Khalifa Rabia, an Emirati merchant from Fujairah, was arrested by the UAE authorities on charges of belonging to the Eslah society.
Rabia was subjected to a large number of violations, including enforced disappearance, torture, and arbitrary detention without trial. For about 6 months, he was held in detention without any charges and without any contacts.
Although he finished his sentence 3 years ago, the UAE authorities still keep him in detention, under the pretext that he poses a threat on the society.
His apprehension and trial
On July 23, 2013, the UAE State Security forces stormed the house of Rabia, in Fujairah, arrested him, and then took him to an unknown place.
The circumstances of Rabia’s detention are vauge, but he remained detained in an unknown place until January 25, 2014. Two days later, he was brought before the State Security Department of the Federal Supreme Court on charges of joining Eslah society.
On March 10, 2014, after three sessions, the court sentenced Rabia to five years imprisonment and a fine of half a million dirhams.
Although Rabia finished his sentence on July 23, 2018, the UAE authorities refuse to release him and keep detaining him in the Munasaha Center in Al-Razeen Prison.
