UAE's SSA forces wives of detainees of conscience to file for divorce

The Emirates Detainees Advocacy Centre (EDAC) has learnt that the UAE State Security Apparatus (SSA) has forced some wives of detainees of conscience to file for divorce from their husbands, who have been stripped of their nationality, as they were given the choice of either confiscating their children's nationality and denying them the completion of their education, or divorcing their husbands.

The SSA has recently made generous offers to some wives of detainees of conscience to receive houses and a salary from the state, as well as school fees for their children, if they agree to file for divorce.

The information received by EDAC states that the SSA has recently focused its efforts on pressuring the wives of detainees by all possible means to get them to file for divorce from the detainees, which has become a systematic method against all detainees whose citizenship has been confiscated.

Forcing the wives of detainees to file for divorce on grounds of conscience is the latest method used by the UAE authorities to psychologically destroy detainees, and a new attempt to isolate them from their families and prevent them from seeing their children even when they are released from prison.
